What about a Thanksgiving fast, not a feast?
Instead of engaging in over-consumption of 45 million endorphin-laden Turkeys as a way to give thanks, my wife and I take a less is more approach. We normally wake up and collect all of our clothing, books, furniture, and unused digital gadgetry for donation. We amass so much stuff in our daily lives that my wife and I give thanks by giving some of it back to those in need.
After finishing up our donation work, we juice for the rest of the day. We start our day with a lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup mix in water. This is a great and tasty cleansing mix. In the early afternoon, we will move to a more substantive juice, such as a beat, carrot, and apple mix, maybe adding some celery.
In fact, early records indicate that the Pilgrims celebrated both a day of Thanksgiving and a day of Fasting. What are some of your conservation-oriented Thanksgiving traditions? Add them as comments below…
