97% of the remaining water is in the salty oceans… Two thirds of fresh water on Earth is actually frozen in icecaps and glaciers, as the chart from the USGS shows below.
If we continue to pollute the groundwater, where the bulk of the fresh water is stored, we could always drink from lakes, which represents a whopping 0.8% of the Earth’s water or swamps at 0.09%.
