Simply brilliant idea:
Why not just sell a simple 2, 3, or 4KW photovoltaic system with each car? Installed it should run less than %10 of the cost of the car, and be another attention-getter for the status seeker, or a VERY WISE investment for the ecology & economy concerned consumer.
Start that as a side business; American made & manufactured Solar thermal or PV alternative energy. It would also have the addedd benefit of paying for itself within the average duration of a car-loan, yet will provide FREE ENERGY for another 20-30 years!
The financing structure for the cars is already in place, just add this option as a feature, and see how many takers you get.
While I’m sure Tesla is working hard to meet current quotas, if you want real volume then start building pickup trucks & mini-vans.

Why is it done, if this is such a good class of cars, and such a great idea?
